About the Organisation - Home Start Erewash
Home-Start Erewash is dedicated to empowering parents to provide their children with the best possible start in life. We understand that every family is unique, which is why our approach is tailored to meet the individual needs of those we support. We are committed to providing compassionate, confidential assistance, backed by expert guidance, without judgment.
At the heart of our efforts lies home-visiting support, a cornerstone of our organisation for over three decades. Since 1989, we have continually refined and adapted this solution to ensure it remains effective and relevant. We firmly believe that by addressing family circumstances such as social disadvantage, housing insecurity, familial relationships, parental mental health, and caregiving behaviours’, we can positively influence children's outcomes.
The early years, from pregnancy to age five, are pivotal in shaping a child's future. During this time, our brains undergo rapid development, profoundly influenced by our environment, experiences, and relationships. Recognising this critical period, Home-Start Erewash is dedicated to early intervention, providing essential support to parents and primary caregivers.
By nurturing a supportive, caring environment for children and their caregivers, we not only enhance their physical, emotional and mental well-being but also lay the foundation for generations to come.
About the Project – Nurturing Recovery
Support will include:
- Home-Start home visiting support - dedicated one-to-one weekly practical and emotional support in the parent’s home. Our trained home visitor will build a relationship of trust with the family they are matched to. Helping parents to learn how to bond and play with their child, help with confident to go out and engage in community activities, help to access other services, or that vital listening ear. Sometimes it’s just the chance to have a cup of tea and a moments peace. We continue support until the parent is ready for us to step back and we use our other services to help transition support up and down as needed.
- Connection Café - weekly drop-in sessions at cafés in Long Eaton and Ilkeston provide an opportunity for parents to connect with one another and share their experiences. By connecting with other parents who may be going through similar challenges, parents can find comfort, understanding, and a sense of belonging. Creating a supportive and inclusive environment at the café is at the heart of creating a sense of community. Parents will not only benefit from the practical resources and connections provided but also from the emotional support they receive.
- Our Embrace Group runs for 6 weeks a minimum of 4 times a year in term time – a total of 24 weeks a year for two hours. Participants are invited to attend for the course duration, creating a shared safe space and allowing friendships to form. With a focus on those early years, 0-3, it equips parents with valuable knowledge, enhances the parent-child bond, reduces isolation, and fosters an environment of understanding and enjoyment. allowing peer to peer relationships to develop to provide a wider network of recovery support.
- Recovery Nurture programme, provides six weekly specialist mindful group activities allowing parents in recovery and their children to connect.
